The Information Department of al-Qaeda in Iraq Issues a Statement about the Jeddah Meeting and the New Saudi Role
By SITE Institute
October 4, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat Al-Jihad Fi Bilad Al-Rafidayn] issued a statement yesterday, October 3, 2005, denouncing the Jeddah conference and the Saudis for accepting a role to broker reconciliation within the ?situation in Iraq.? The group avers that historically, the Saudis have been ?traitors and the pioneering stands in serving the crusaders,? opening American bases within Saudi Arabia which catered to plans to invade Iraq and be loci for ?campaigning on the lands of Muslims.? Now, according to the message, the Americans are ?surrounded and they are about to be defeated,? so they have called upon the Saudis to ?get them out of their misery.?

According to media reports, the Arab League met in Jeddah on Sunday, October 2, to create support around the Iraqi constitution and reconcile religious hostilities within Iraq.

A full translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
