Abu Musab al-Zarqawi issued a response to the American government?s claim that they recovered a letter written by Ayman al-Zawahiri, bin Laden?s lieutenant. The message, purportedly written by Zawahiri to Zarqawi, discusses the situation in Afghanistan as well as the situation in Iraq.
Zarqawi refutes the claims of authenticity by the Western media and claims the letter was doctored by the Americans as a piece of propaganda. Zarqawi further points out the Americans lack of knowledge by asserting that his audio message last week, which some sources claimed was an initial response to Zawahiri?s letter, was in fact unrelated to the Zawahiri letter.
Zarqawi says the Americans are well versed in ?the twisting of the facts and the creation of illusions? and proceeds to sarcastically condemn the reports that the letter was intercepted at all: ?All in the al-Qaeda organization announce that the allegations have no basis in the truth, and have roots only in the imagination of the Black House [White House] and their slaves?
Zarqawi further says, speaking to the mujahideen, ?We urge the Muslims to ignore this cheap propaganda…Also we would like to cheer them up about the mujahideen and their leaders in Iraq and Afghanistan, the crusaders dreams were destroyed and their armies with which they frightened the world are agitated.?
