The Global Islamic Media Front, an al-Qaeda mouthpiece, issued a message of remembrance today, October 25, 2005, for the ?heroic Moscow theater operation,? which began on October 23, 2002 and ended three days later. The message recounts the details of the siege, in which forty Chechen mujahideen, both men and women from the ?Riad al-Salehin? group, held spectators hostage in a Moscow theater as they demanded the cessation of the Russian military campaign against Chechnya. Further, according to the message, more than 300 Russians were killed and large number injured due to asphyxia.
The group lauds the mujahideen involved in this operation as the ?Islamic Nation?s heroes? and states: ?We will never forget you.?
