Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for Operations Targeting America and Iraqi Forces in Baghdad, al-Mosul, and Kirkuk

In five communiqués issued yesterday, October 27, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah claims responsibility for ?fierce? confrontations with Iraqi forces in al-Bazayez, in Eastern Baghdad, ?harvest? in al-Mosul on Tuesday, October 25, assassinating two Iraqi security officers in Kirkuk, and detonating improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on American targets in Arab Jabbour and al-Zeidan.

  1. According to the first communiqué, Iraqi forces stormed the area of al-Bazeyez, surrounding it, and arresting those they encountered. The ?heroes,? the mujahideen, combined with those from neighboring villages and the villagers, retaliated, allegedly killing more than sixty-five ?converters.?
  2. The second communiqué announces the ?harvest? in al-Mosul on Tuesday, including assassinations of two members of the ?Barazani party,? and attacks on Iraqi police at the intersection of al-Mothanna.
  3. In Kirkuk, an Iraqi National Guard colonel responsible of the ?investigation in the jails? was murdered on Baghdad road, and an officer in the emergency police was also killed.
  4. The fourth communiqué states that an IED was detonated on an American tank in Arab Jabbour.
  5. In al-Zeidan, west of Baghdad, the fifth message indicates an IED was detonated on an American Humvee, allegedly destroying the vehicle and killing who were inside.
