Attack on US Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
By SITE Institute
December 6, 2004

The attack today on the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia might be viewed
as a response to the Nov. 17, 04 audio message from the leader of al-Qaeda in
Saudi Arabia, Sultan Bin Bajad Al-Otaibi. In the message, which was posted
to al-Qaeda's website, Al-Otaibi called on those inspired to join the Jihad to
"go and kill one Infidel to obtain your share of what the Prophet, prayer and
peace upon him, said: 'an infidel and his killer will never meet in Hell'."

In reference to Saudi forces, Al-Otaibi asked, "Who is protecting Americans
and the Crusaders in our country? Who is standing between us and the Cross,
defending it?! By Allah, we have seen the National Guard soldiers put their
throats at the doors of the CIA in Riyadh in order to protect them."

The day this message was posted, the SITE Institute translated it and distributed it to its Intelligence Service subscribers.

Today, Islamist gunmen attacked the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and gunning down several members of the Saudi National Guard and five non-American consulate staff.
