Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for New Assault in al-Ramadi
By SITE Institute
December 1, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat al-Jihad Fi Bilad al-Rafidayn] issued a statement today, December 1, 2005, claiming responsibility for the ?new blessed attack? in al-Ramadi, west of Baghdad, as they seek to rid the city of the ?Crusaders? and Iraqi security forces. The group maintains that they possess control over ?most of the parts? of al-Ramadi, and the recent engagement included most of al-Qaeda in Iraq?s mujahideen brigades.

Media reports indicate that nearly 250 armed fighters had held the streets of al-Ramadi for several hours, and fired mortar rounds and rockets at local U.S. military installations and government buildings.

A translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
