The Military Consultation Commission in Chechnya Announces the Death of Abu Omar al-Saif, a Purported al-Qaeda Leader in Chechnya

A statement was recently issued from the Military Consultation Commission to the Arabic website of the Chechen jihad, announces the death of Abu Omar al-Saif, AKA Muhammad bin Abdulllah bin Saifal-Jaber al-Buayneen al-Tamimi, one of the prominent leaders of jihad in Chechnya and the ?only source of knowledge and Shari?a for the Chechen mujahideen.? The message indicates that al-Seif was killed during a confrontation with Russian soldiers, referred to as ?Allah?s enemies,? after spending more than ten years on Chechen land. Further, the statement offers words of praise to Abu Omar al-Seif and prays that Allah accept him as a martyr.

According to media reports, Abu Omar al-Saif, a Saudi scholar who has been affiliated with al-Qaeda leadership in Chechnya, was killed during a confrontation with Russian soldiers near Dagestan during the beginning of this December.
