A statement allegedly composed by Abu Hafs, the deputy and commander of the Military Consultation Commission of the mujahideen in Chechnya, dated Monday, January 2, 2006, and posted to Arabic website of the Chechen jihad, alqoqaz.net , reports the ?good news? of the Chechen mujahideen battles with Russian forces. In addition, Abu Hafs calls upon the Muslims performing Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, and the Muslim nation, in general, to not forget their Muslim Chechen brothers, as they are ?indebted to them and their victory.?
According to the statement, the ?signs of victory? for the Chechen mujahideen are in the horizon, despite the death of Abu Omar al-Saif, one of the prominent leaders of jihad in Chechnya. Abu Hafs, further, claims that although the mujahideen are ?confined? due to the large number of youth and elderly people who come to jihad but do not fit within the ?nature of the battle,? the Russian forces have been dealt exhausting blows and have landed into a ?political trap.?
