Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Detonating an IED on a Convoy in the Area of Sheikh Hamad, Firing Mortars at Abbas ben Fernas Airport, and Assassinating an Intelligence Officer in Baquba

Al-Qaeda in Iraq, in three communiqués issued today, January 6, 2006. claims responsibility for attacks yesterday including the detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED) on a ?Crusader? convoy in the area of Sheikh Hamad, north of Baghdad, allegedly killing four soldiers and destroying a Humvee, firing mortar shells at Abbas ben Fernas airport of the Iraqi National Guard, and the assassination last week, December 29, 2005, of a ?Crusaders? intelligence officer? who works at the Bulldozer base in Baquba.

A translation of the three messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
