Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for the Attack against the Iraqi Interior Ministry
By SITE Institute
January 9, 2006

Today, January 9, 2003, on a jihadist internet forum, al-Qaeda in Iraq claimed responsibility for the recent attack against the Iraqi Interior Ministry that killed at least seven and injured at least 35.

According to the claim, ?two ansar brothers of al-Baraa bin Malik Brigade infiltrated nine checkpoints set by the converters around the building.? The bombers then detonated explosive belts at the checkpoints. ?And at the same time, these mujahideen were able to enter a car bomb into the ministry?s parking lot and it has caused very great destruction, thanks be to Allah.?

The communiqué closes by issuing threats to specific members of the government, who it insists will be targeted in the coming days, adding that ?this is a new message to the devils of this converter government, that their barricaded places will not stop the mujahideen from reaching them.?

A translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
