Ansar al-Sunnah in Iraq Claims an Attack against the National Guard, and the Assassination of Judge Khalid Haza’a and a National Guardsman
By SITE Institute
January 9, 2006

As posted to a password-protected internet forum today, January 9, 2006, the Army of Ansar al-Sunnah claimed responsibility for three attacks in across Iraq. In the first claim of responsibility, the group states that it waged a machine gun attack against ?a National Guard patrol in al-Wehda section in the city of al-Mosul,? the effects of which are not known.

Second, the group claims to have captured and interrogated a member of the Iraqi National Guard, before releasing him, only to then execute him in public view. ?His papers and money were thrown in his face.?

In a separate release, the group takes responsibility for the assassination of Judge Khalid Haza?a, ?who is responsible for ?the Terrorist Cases.?? The message states that the judge was assassinated because ?the mujahideen were fed up with him and his hard position against them.?

A translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
