Al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia Claims Responsibility for the Attempted Suicide Car Bombings at the Abqaiq Oil Refinery in Eastern Saudi Arabia
By SITE Institute
February 25, 2006

Al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia issued a statement today, February 25, 2006, claiming responsibility for the attempted bombing yesterday of the Abqaiq oil refinery, in eastern Saudi Arabia, by two suicide car bombers. The group charges that these refineries are ?instrumental in the robbing and pillaging of the Muslim oil treasures? and was executed within the framework of al-Qaeda?s ?war against the Crusaders and Zionists?. Further, the statement indicates that the bombers are an ?honorable role model? of Muslim youth in Saudi Arabia, and there are many more who wish to engage their enemy.

According to media reports guards at the Abqaid oil refinery opened fire upon the two suicide bombers who were driving in separate vehicles before they could reach the target. The vehicles exploded, killing the men inside and injuring two guards.

A translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
