An Example of Psychological Warfare Exhibited on Jihadist Forums, Mocking American Forces’ Capturing and Killing Armed Insurgents
By SITE Institute
March 16, 2006

Jihadist forums in general are replete with images and statements contributing to psychological warfare against America and the West, especially towards their policies and actions concerning Muslims and Arab lands. In particular, the War in Iraq has captured a large portion of the members? attention, and postings and discussions reflect this trend. This particular message, posted today, March 16, 2006, to a password-protected al-Qaeda-affiliated forum, derides American military and media claims of killing armed individuals of al-Qaeda in Iraq and capturing alleged aides to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and is but one of many in this style.

The author collected images from myriad media sites such as Reuters and al-Jazeera, and displayed them beneath mocking captions, such as: ?An armed man holding a rifle in the shape of a pacifier. He is pressing the trigger,? paired with a photo of an injured and bound child. A member replying to the post writes: ?The Americans do not do anything better than kill citizens, especially children.?

A translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
