March 21, 2006

The Mujahideen Shura Council issued a statement yesterday, March 20, 2006, addressing the ongoing military operations north of Baghdad and stating that the American and Iraqi forces? claims of capturing mujahideen and confiscating their weapons is false; rather, they allege that these forces are ?still avoiding any serious confrontation with the mujahideen?. According to the statement, only peaceful Sunni people have been targeted in the ?show-off operation,? and more innocent Sunnis were captured and charged with being members of the ?special group? that executed the director of al-Iraqiya television. The group urges Muslims to disregard the lies and steps taken by the enemy in the information war and states: ?If they have a little bit of courage, they would have told what happened to their soldiers by the hands of the Tawhid lions in the city of al-Ramadi and other places.?

In addition, the Mujahideen Shura Council recently issued two communiqués claiming responsibility for a suicide car bombing Saturday, March 18, 2006, targeting a ?Crusader? barracks in al-Sa?ad section of Tal Afar, allegedly killing ?tens? of these forces, and a bombing operation the following Sunday in Baquba, allegedly killing twelve Iraqi policemen.

The Mujahideen Shura Council is composed of seven insurgency groups in Iraq: al-Qaeda in Iraq, Victorious Army Group, the Army of al-Sunnah Wal Jama?a, Ansar al-Tawhid Brigades, Islamic Jihad Brigades, the Strangers Brigades, and the Horrors Brigades, collaborating to meet the ?unbelievers gathering with different sides? and defend Islam.
