The Islamic Army in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Operations Targeting American and Iraqi Forces around Baghdad, and Assassinating the Commander of Police in al-A’azamiya
By SITE Institute
April 5, 2006

The Islamic Army in Iraq issued four communiqués amongst several today, April 5, 2006, claiming responsibility for attacks today in areas around Baghdad including al-Howeija, al-Latifiya and al-Madaen, and an attack on March 30, assassinating the commander of police and six of his companions in al-A?azamiya, the announcement of which was delayed due to ?security reasons?. The group states that operations in al-Howeija and al-Latifiya involved American targets, respectively killing three soldiers by launching a grenade at an American Humvee and killing one by detonating an improvised explosive device (IED). The attack in al-Madaen involved launching mortar shells at Iraqi forces of the Interior and Badr members.

A translation of the four messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
