In a 2-minute videotaped statement posted to a jihadist message board on January 19, 2005, the al-Nuhman Brigades (affiliated with the Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyyah [Islamic Resistance Movement]) shows 8 Chinese employees (all men) of a Chinese contracting [construction] company which the group abducted ?while [the abductees were] attempting to get out of Iraq,? as the group claims.
In the statement, the militants give ?the Chinese Government a 48-hour ultimatum from the time of posting of their pictures to clarify its position [on] these and other Chinese men who have entered Iraq to assist the Occupation Forces.? Otherwise, according to the videotaped statement, the eight captives will die.
