A commentary discussing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi?s video speech, which was issued yesterday, April 25, 2006, by the Mujahideen Shura Council and titled: ?A Message to the People,? has today been circulated amongst several jihadist forums. Divided into seven topics, the author?s presentation opens with his feeling of exuberance in receiving not only this speech, but Usama bin Laden?s audio message two days prior. He writes that Zarqawi?s on-camera appearance is proof of his being a real individual in Iraq, rather than a figure conjured by the American military, and comments of his appearance: ?The appearance of the victorious holding his weapon, fighting his enemies and putting in a corner of no escape but by their defeat and withdrawing and dragging their killed from Iraq.?
The topics touch upon a variety of issues, including Zarqawi having now to pay a higher price for security for appearing publicly and his having shattered the American forces? perception that the leadership of the mujahideen is completely separate from the fighters. He envisions ?American citizens jumping in horror of seeing the mujahideen shooting with the believer?s steadiness and fighting pride, and realizing that there is no way to escape.? Messages addressing the Shi?ites, Arab ?mercenaries? who charged that Zarqawi has no role within the Mujahideen Shura Council for purported mistakes, and mujahideen forces urging them to hold to jihad are also highlighted amongst the topics.
In addition, the author extrapolates Zarqawi?s reference to Jerusalem to intonate that ?al-Qaeda will not rest unless it takes part in your war of liberation. What we offer in Iraq is an introduction to your liberation because the falling of America will be followed by the falling of the entity of aggression on your land.? He also believes that the mujahideen are preparing themselves as a ?regular army,? maintaining an organization of the highest capacity.
