Analysis of the Tape by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi: “A Message to the People”
By SITE Institute
April 28, 2006

An analysis of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi?s video speech, ?A Message to the People,? which was issued by the Mujahideen Shura Council on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, was recently distributed amongst jihadist forums. The author elaborates upon five points in Zarqawi?s speech, trying to discern their meaning and context in the War in Iraq and jihad. A broad look at the message and words of praise and longing are provided in the introduction, as the author expresses happiness in watching the image of Zarqawi, ?the Emir, the killer?. Among the points highlighted are confidence in Allah and jihad, ?failure of the cross project? in Iraq, a challenge to the purported lies of U.S. President George W. Bush, and assurance of military capabilities.

The author believes that Zarqawi?s comment regarding Jerusalem is a ?global call? for oneness in Allah, and how pain in one part of the Muslim Nation is distributed to all its members. Zarqawi?s speech is also interpreted as casting doom on the Iraqi government, in addition to warning Muslims in Iraq that it is ?forbidden? to participate in the political process.

A translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
