Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for the Capture of a Female Captain, Mayada Salihi, Working with American Forces in the Green Zone
By SITE Institute
May 23, 2006

Ansar al-Sunnah issued a communiqué today, May 23, 2006, announcing the capture of Mayada Salihi, a female captain working with American forces in the Iraqi Ministry of Defense in the Green Zone, where she lived, to investigate the mujahideen. The group indicates that they had been pursuing Salihi for over one year and she had escaped an assassination attempt and capture in mid-2005. Ultimately, they were able to apprehend her in one of the ?luxurious? sections of Baghdad this past Sunday, after a confrontation between her, the mujahideen, and nearby Iraqi police and National Guard.

According to the message the group was able to confirm Mayada Salihi?s identity from her documents and questioning of her is still on going. Further, Ansar al-Sunnah provided pictures of seven of her ID cards and five photographs she had taken inside the Green Zone. In each of the photos, with the exception of those in the identification cards, her face has been blurred.

A translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
