The Mujahideen Shura Council Issues a Statement Denying Affiliation with Ziyad al-Karbuli, a Man Captured by Jordanian Intelligence who Confessed to Being a Member of the Organization
By SITE Institute
May 24, 2006

(Ziyad al-Karbuli)

A statement was issued by the Mujahideen Shura Council in Iraq today, May 24, 2006, denying reports from Jordanian intelligence that a man they arrested and whose confession was aired on Jordanian television (JTV) yesterday, Ziyad al-Karbuli, is a ?responsible person of the booties in al-Qaeda?. The group denies even knowing who al-Karbuli is, and believes his statement to be a mere ?theater play written by the devils of the Black House?. Akin to past denials of purported Zarqawi-aide capture, the Council questions: ?We are asking like any sane person would ask: What is the number of Sheikh Zarqawi?s aides and deputies, since so far the number of those that were arrested in this capacity is 73 individuals!!?

According to media reports, in Ziyad al-Karbuli?s videotaped confession, he states that he served as an Iraqi customs agent along Iraq?s western border with Jordan, executed people who threatened al-Qaeda, and arrested two members of the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad who were killed by al-Qaeda in Iraq in November 2005.

The Mujahideen Shura Council is composed of eight insurgency groups in Iraq: al-Qaeda in Iraq, Victorious Army Group, the Army of al-Sunnah Wal Jama?a, Jama?a al-Murabiteen, Ansar al-Tawhid Brigades, Islamic Jihad Brigades, the Strangers Brigades, and the Horrors Brigades, collaborating to meet the ?unbelievers gathering with different sides? and defend Islam.
