The Taliban issued a communiqué today, May 24, 2006, listing and describing their ?harvest? of military operations in various provinces of Afghanistan between Tuesday, May 16, 2006, and Saturday, May 20. In the message, the group states that reports that the ?exemplary? Taliban commander Mullah Dadullah has not been captured, and such claims by Hamid Karzai?s administration are only to boost the morale of the Afghan army. Amongst attacks, the Taliban purportedly killed over 60 Afghani soldiers in Helmond following a ?fierce battle,? killed eight American soldiers by a suicide bombing in Harat, and additional attacks and bombings targeting American and Afghani forces in Ghazni, Konar, Helmond, Khost and Qandahar.
In one particular operation, an attack on the jurisdiction building of Moussi Kala in Helmond on May 17, the mujahideen of the Talibain allegedly controlled the facility until the following morning, and eighteen Afghani soldiers were killed as well as three mujahideen. The group denies government claims that sixty mujahideen were killed in this attack and another sixty captured, stating that less than twenty-five were even involved.
