By SITE Institute
June 9, 2006

The Emir of the Mujahideen Shura Council in Iraq, Abdullah Rashid al-Baghdadi, issued a statement today, June 9, 2006, addressing the Muslims after the death yesterday of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Emir of al-Qaeda in Iraq. His message is replete with Qur?anic verses glorifying martyrdom and jihad for the Sake of Allah, and comforting words to the Muslims and mujahideen that the ?gates of paradise? have opened within Iraq, which he describes as the ?first line of defense? for Islam. He also states that victory is approaching, and that the ?fruits of establishment have already blossomed on the tree of jihad, which was watered by the martyr?s blood?.

Further, he addresses the Shi?ites and ?cross worshippers? warning them that the mujahideen anticipate either victory or death by the sword of their enemy, and asks Muslim youth to ?depart,? stating: ?the time of humiliation has gone and now is the time of the market of lovers seeking martyrdom and paradise?.

Since a communiqué from January 20, 2006, Abdullah Rashid al-Baghdadi has been known as the Emir of the Mujahideen Shura Council.

A translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
