The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades issued a communiqué yesterday, June 13, 2006, claiming responsibility for launching two ?Aqsa 3? rockets that day which hit the Kisufim military site, north of Khan Younes in the Gaza Strip. A continuation of the fight and ?commando operations? in the ?occupied Palestine territory? are confirmed by the group as retaliation for Israeli attacks against the Palestinian mujahideen. The group also pledges to the Palestinian people to continue in the ?journey of jihad and the resistance? until the Israel forces are defeated.
The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, first designated as a terrorist entity in March 2002, operates in Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, and consists of an unknown number of small cells of Fatah-affiliated terrorists. Its goal is the removal of Israeli forces and people from the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem to establish a Palestinian state.
