Statement From al-Qaeda Group in Iraq Denying Responsibility For Kidnapping Italian Reporter
By SITE Institute
February 7, 2005

In a short announcement posted to a leading Jihadist message board by Abu Maysara al-Iraqi, spokesperson of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi?s Al-Qaeda in Iraq [?Tanzeem Qaedat al-Jihad Fi Bilad al-Rafidayn?], the group denies all involvement in the kidnapping of Italian reporter, Giuliana Sgrena, kidnapped in Baghdad on February 3rd. The announcement emphasizes, however, that the al-Qaeda group does not necessarily denounce the kidnapping either.
