The First Anniversary of the Bombings in London – A Video Presentation by as-Sahab Featuring Speeches from Shehzad Tanweer, Azzam the American, and al-Qaeda Leadership
By SITE Institute
July 7, 2006

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the July 7, 2005 bombings in the London underground, as-Sahab, an al-Qaeda media production company, issued a 31:08 minute video presentation featuring the will of Shehzad Tanweer, one of the suicide bombers involved in the attack along with Muhammad Siddique Khan, a speech from Adam Gadahn AKA Azzam the American, and background for Tanweer?s motivation by Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri in newly released footage. The film is shown in a documentary format, footage from news reports of the bombing interspersed with narration justifying the attacks, and clips of Tanweer, Gadahn, Zawahiri, and past speeches of Usama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, which segue into each other.

Shehzad Tanweer is explained through his own words and that of Zawahiri as zealous in Islam, enraged with the atrocities committed against Muslims, and finding motivation for this suicide operation not by lack of financial resources or ?emptiness,? but love for Allah. According to Tanweer, Britain?s guilt lies in its supporting the U.S. and Israel, not just in Iraq, but Afghanistan and Palestine. He states: ?To the non-Muslims of Britain, you may have wondered what you have done to deserve this. You are those who have voted in your government, who have in turn and still continue to this day continue to oppress our mothers, children, brothers and sisters from the east to the west in Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Chechnya. Your government has openly supported the genocide of over 150,000 innocent Muslims in Fallujah?. He traveled to al-Qaeda training camps primarily due to his anger towards Britain?s treatment of Palestine, and there met Muhammad Siddique Khan.

The segment with Adam Gadahn, exposing his face, justifies action taken against Britain for its complicity in the ?coalition of terror,? and recounts bombings aimed at Muslims women and children, claiming he carried the dead and wounded himself. Gadahn also references the recent incident involving the American soldiers rape and murder of an Iraqi family, observing that the Mujahideen Shura Council in Iraq took appropriate action against the two American soldier it had captured. Concerning Britain directly, he states: ?And where's Britain in all of this? Coaching from the sidelines, huh?, and lending a helping hand whenever possible. I'd like to remind those who ludicrously claim that Britain treats Muslims better than America, that Britain is the one who taught American how to kill and oppress Muslims in the first place, by drawing on experience gained during hundreds of years of blood-soaked colonialist history. Unless we forget, Britain is today, besides prosecuting its occupation of southern Iraq, the one heading the NATO occupation of Afghanistan and relieving the bloodied and bruised Americans in the south and east of the country.?

The clips from speeches by Usama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi place the attack within the context of the clash between the West and Islam, with a focus on Palestine. Computer generated video of a train exploding at King?s Cross station ten minutes to nine are also shown within the video, a narrator explaining: ?The knights of London continued to train and plan for the operation, and the targets were identified with precision, so much so that even the names of the targeted stations held symbolic meaning and spiritual significance for the Crusader West. And after completing their training and preparation, the knights departed for the field of operation.?

Motivational words to jihad, especially directed at Muslims in Britain, are spoken by Shehzad Tanweer. He urges those who are true believers to sacrifice for the ?Cause of Allah,? and to the British government, he states: ?What you have witnessed now is only the beginning of a series of attacks, which by the Grace of Allah, will intensify and continue until you pull all of your troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Until you stop all financial and military support to the U.S. and Israel, and until you release all Muslim prisoners from Belmarsh and your other concentration camps. And know that if you fail to comply with this, then know that this war will never stop and that we are willing to give our lives one hundred times over for the cause of Islam. You will never experience peace until our children in Palestine, our mothers and sisters in Kashmir, our brothers in Afghanistan and Iraq feel peace.?
