Ansaar Al-Islam Website Shows Al-Jazeera Pictures

March 27, 2003

The Ansaar Al-Islam official website, running of a server in New Jersey, is broadcasting gruesome picture stills of murdered American troops. The stills were taken from Al-Jazeera’s controversial broadcast of an Iraqi propaganda tape that showed prisoners of war from the current conflict as well as dead American troops with bullet wounds to their heads. In addition, the site is filled with pictures of military training and religious rhetoric justifying terrorist attacks. Ansaar Al-Islam, which operates in northern Iraq, is an affiliate group of the al-Qaeda network, from which it receives support. Formed in 1998, Ansaar Al-Islam is comprised of mostly Kurds seeking a Shariah state, where Islamic law reigns supreme. Led by terrorists who studied in al-Qaeda’s training camps in Afghanistan, the group embarks on ruthless terrorist attacks aimed against the secular Kurdish regime. For more information on the website, please contact the SITE Institute.
