In a set of two messages posted today, Saturday, February 19, 2005 to a leading Jihadist message board, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi?s group, al-Qaeda in Iraq (Tanzeem Qaedat al-Jihad fi Fi Bilad al-Rafidayn) claimed responsibility for a pair of suicide operations in the cities of al-A?athamiya and Ba?aqaouba.
The first communique claims responsibility for an attack by "Abu Khalid from the island of Muhammad" against a National Guard post in the al-A?athamiya region of Baghdad, promising that "The Mujahideen inflicted a high number of casualties and many injuries among the enemy. "
The second message takes credit for an attack against another National Guard base, this time in the Ba?aqaouba region of Diyala. The group expresses its desire to place control of the regions in the hands of the Mujahideen, asking "May God release its captivity and the captivity of the land."
