Statement from the Information Division of Al-Qaeda in Iraq Responding to Madrid Conference
By SITE Institute
March 11, 2005

On March 11, 2005, the Information Division of al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Jihad Organization in the Country of the Two Rivers, issued a statement in response to the Madrid Conference held this week. The conference, attended by leaders of states and terrorism experts from fifty countries, explored ways to reduce and combat the threat of terrorism. The communiqué by al-Qaeda in Iraq, issued on the one-year anniversary of the Madrid train bombing, assails the ?enemies of Allah… who march on the same line and they do not have anything to worry about but to fight the Muslims and put them down.?

The statement questions the ?non-believers? negative campaign against Islam, which they believe promulgates the belief that ?to terrify Allah?s enemies is our belief and our religion.? The sole concern of the non-believers, according to the statement, is to destroy Islam.

Furthermore, the diatribe promises that whatever ?you [non-believers] prepare, you will be defeated and never victorious.? The victory of the mujahideen is considered ?the ultimate gift? and the statement ominously concludes with a warning that ?we are waiting for you.?

A full translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
