Message Urges Caution to Mujahideen Traveling Through Syria to Iraq
By SITE Institute
March 14, 2005

A posting circulated on jihadist message boards urges fighters to use caution when attempting to travel to Iraq through Syria. The warning, entitled ?Urgent Message to the Youth Who Want to go to Iraq from Syria? is written for ?our brothers who would like to go to Iraq from Syria but don?t know what to do.?

Readers are advised to be very careful on the roads leading to Iraq: ?This regime (Syria) set up check points along the roads leading to Iraq (to arrest all who are strangers to these areas) in al-Qamishli and Dayr az-Zawr.?

Apprehended fighters ?go through all kinds of suffering, starting from a lack of cleanliness and pain from all kinds of beatings. You are delivered to the country?s authorities where you start going through the torture process again.?

A full translation of the the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
