Statement from al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Destroying an Armed Vehicle in Talafar, Killing a Number of Americans as well as the Assassination of a Border Police Chief in al-Mahmoudia
By SITE Institute
March 15, 2005

Al-Qaeda in Iraq posted two communiqués claiming responsibility for both the attack on an armed vehicle in Talafar and also the assassination of a border police chief in al-Mahmoudia.

The first communiqué is an update on yesterday?s message concerning the ongoing battle in Talafar between the mujahideen of al-Qaeda in Iraq and the American forces. The group?s official spokesman, Abu Maysara al-Iraqi, alleges much success against the Americans, stating: ?the mujahideen made them very afraid and they killed a good number of them.?

The communiqué also claims that the Americans are downplaying the losses in this battle, averring that: ?The reality is that many vehicles were destroyed and many [Americans] were killed.?

In the second communiqué, the group claims responsibility for ?the killing the chief of the border forces when patrolling the area of al-Mahmoudia? and offers ?congratulations [to the] people of Islam? for his assassination.

The message concludes by warning the ?enemies of Allah? that ?killing, destroying and disaster? are lying in wait.

A full translation of the two communiqués is provided to our Intel Service members.
