On March 16, 2005, in statement issued from the emir (leader) of the Military Wing of al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Jihad Organization in the Country of the Two Rivers, Abu Aseed al-Iraqi congratulates the mujahideen for their successful campaign against the Italian soldiers and promises more attacks as the Italian presence continues.
The message comes as the Italian government, yesterday, announced plans to withdraw their troops from Iraq in September.
Rejoicing in what they consider a victory, the statement harkens to the mujahideen success against the Byzantine empire in the time of Mohammad, reading that: ?Allah will reward the martyrs who destroyed the Roman?s forts in al-Nasiriyah and killed tens of them. They rubbed their noses in the mud. They reminded them of Mu?ta and Tabuk.?
Furthermore, despite the exit strategy of the Italian government, al-Qaeda in Iraq promises that they ?will not stop any bullet aimed at you [Italian soldiers] and ask Allah to get your necks? and ?as long as Italy would stay in Iraq, for several months more there will be more killing and losses.?
