Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for Bombing Operations upon American and Iraqi Forces in Baquba and Heit
By SITE Institute
May 13, 2005

In two separate communiqués issued today, May 13, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah claims responsibility for attacks upon Iraqi guards in Baquba, north of Baghdad, and the bombing of an American convoy in Heit, which lies west of Baghdad.

Today, as described in the first communiqué, the group detonated ?a car bomb on a large troop carrier of the non-believers? guard, with about forty converters on board,? as it was traveling in Baquba. The message is vague as to the number of casualties, stating only: ?tens of corpses were flying here and there,? however media reports indicate three Iraqis died, 2 of whom were soldiers, and 5 were injured as a result of the bombing.

In the second communiqué, Ansar al-Sunnah describes an attack today via an ?explosive package? on an American Humvee which was ?accompanying an American convoy near the city of Heit. ? Though the message indicates the vehicle was struck, they ?do not know what happened to its passengers.?

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
