By SITE Institute
May 16, 2005

In four separate communiqués issued today, May 16, 2005, through official spokesman, Abu Maysara al-Iraqi, al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat al-Jihad Fi Bilad al-Rafidayn] claims responsibility for bombing operations in Etnane, Baquba, and Zaafaraniya, and condemns the killing of Sunnis in the al-Shaab neighborhood of Baghdad:

  1. As described in the first communiqué, in Etane yesterday, a suicide bomber "attacked a convoy of police forces that included the governor of Dyali, Raad al-Molla Jawad, in al-Etane yesterday. When they were gathering to pick up their wounded, another brother with an explosive belt exploded and they were done".
  2. In Baquba, north of Baghdad, al-Qaeda members, using 60mm mortar bombs, ?rained fire on the converters? on a ?base of the non-believers guards.?
  3. The third message, condemning the killing of the Sunnah people in al-Shaab, Baghdad, portends retribution, stating: ?you will not gain by your act, and you shall see what will hurt you, you devil?s advocates.?
  4. Today, ?a heroic attack on a convoy of police forces? in al-Zaafaraniya, norther Baghdad, is described in the fourth communiqué. According to the message, a suicide bomber detonated himself and ?hit two of their cars, so they were destroyed with whomever were in them.?
