The statements refer to two attacks in Baquba: the assassination of an Iraqi National Guard captain, Nosair Fadel al-Zohairi, and an attack on an Iraqi police patrol. According to international media reports, the attack, which targeted a three car police patrol with a car bomb, injured 14 people, two of whom were police officers.

In Sadia, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims to have killed three Iraqi National Guard. Media reports of a similar attack on Iraqi police in Sadia state that the attack was repelled by Iraqi forces. Four militants were killed during the battle.
