Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Bombings in Baghdad and Baquba
By SITE Institute
May 19, 2005

In two separate communiqués issued today, May 19, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims responsibility for a suicide bombing targeting Americans in Baghdad and a bombing upon Iraqi police in Baquba, north of Baghdad.

The first communiqué describes an attack today on the expressway leading to the Baghdad airport near al-Amiriya, where a suicide bomber ?immersed himself within the crusaders? convoy.? According to the message, three American cars were destroyed and ?a number of cross-worshippers were killed.?

Also today, as detailed in the second communiqué, al-Qaeda in Iraq ?planted an explosive package? on the road leading from Baquba to Diyali, and detonated it as a ?police patrol that allies with the Christians and the Jews arrived…? Of the results of the attack, the message states: ?the police car was destroyed and two were killed.?

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
