Al-Qaeda in Iraq Denies Claims that Zarqawi and Top-Level Aides Met in Syria to Plan an Intensification of Attacks in Iraq
By SITE Institute
May 19, 2005

Once again, in an act proving the close monitoring of the media?s reports of the war in Iraq, Al-Qaeda in Iraq issued a statement today, May 19, 2005, denouncing today?s media reports that the group?s leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, had met with his top-level aides in Syria last month to orchestrate an increase in suicide bombings.

Denying the reports, the communiqué states that: ?The enemies of Allah are stumbling after the increase in attacks upon them. Here are the crusaders fumbling in their speech….? Addressing U.S. Officials? belief that the spate of suicide bombings were ?prepared by the leaders of al-Qaeda Organization in Syria,? the group asserts that ?our mujahideen are … choosing what they wish in cities and villages and invite who they want.?

A full translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
