Jama’at Jund al-Sahaba Claims Responsibility for Bombing of a Shi’a Temple in al-Sayedia
By SITE Institute
May 20, 2005

Today, May 20, 2005, Jama?at Jund al-Sahaba, the Army Squad of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, issued a communiqué claiming responsibility for a bombing of a Shi?a temple in al-Sayedia, a southern district of Baghdad.

The communiqué states that the explosion occurred along a ?commercial street? and a ?number of those unbelievers were killed.? News reports indicate that it was a car bomb that exploded outside the Imam al-Mahdi Shiite mosque, killing two children and injuring five people.

In mid-March the group also claimed responsibility for a suicide operation in Mosul targeting Shi?a mourners, killing 51 people and injuring 77. Outlined in their previous communiqués provided by the SITE Institute , Jama?at Jund al-Sahaba predicates a mission on the defense of Islam and on quelling the purported rising storm of the Shi?a against Muslims.
