By SITE Institute
May 24, 2005

Today, May 24, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq [Tanzeem Qaedat al-Jihad Fi Bilad al-Rafidayn] issued two separate communiqués claiming responsibility for attacks in the al-Watheq Square, south of Baghdad, and al-Miqdadiyah district of Diyala.

The first communiqué describes the bombing today via an ?explosive package? on a police car in al-Watheq Square, where ?four of Allah?s converted enemies were injured…? as a result of the detonation. According to media reports, this attack was perpetrated near a junior high school for girls in Alwiyah residential area; residents telephoned police officials about a suspicious-car parked near the school and as bomb disposal experts neared the car, it was detonated, killing 6 bystanders and inuring 3 civilians and a police officer.

A bombing yesterday in the area of al-Miqdadiyah in Diyala is highlighted in the next communiqué, where an American convoy was the target of an explosive. Concerning the resulting casualties, the message states: ?Allah?s enemies were injured by Allah?s grace.?

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
