The Army of Ansar al-Sunnah posted a message to its website today, May 28, 2005, detailing the circumstances around the death of Akihiko Saito, a Japanese contractor in Iraq, along with a video clip of what appears to be Mr. Saito?s body. The group had originally announced that Mr. Saito was held hostage on May 9th, 2005.
The group claimed that Mr. Saito fired at its members with his automatic weapon, so ?the Brother had no choice but to shoot him with multiple bullets.? According to the message, Mr. Saito was not immediately killed. As American forces surrounded the area, the group claimed they were forced to retreat. Upon their return to the area, the message said, they had found that Mr. Saito had died of his wounds.
The included video clip shows again the documents seized from Mr. Saito as well as graphic images of his body postmortem.
Members of our Intel Service recieved the video clip and translated message.
