Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Suicide Bombing at Baghdad Airport and Attack on Iraqi Police in Sab’albour, Baghdad
By SITE Institute
June 1, 2005

In two separate communiqués issued to the Internet today, June 1, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims responsibility for a suicide bombing operation today at the Baghdad Airport, executed by the al-Baraa Ibn Malek Suicidal Brigades[1] , and an attack yesterday on the ?emergency police forces? in the Sab?albour area of north Baghdad.

The first communiqué describes the attack at an airport where the ?crusaders? quarters and the idolatry bases [are located], executed by the al-Baraa Ibn Malek Suicidal Brigades. The message indicates that a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb amidst a ?concentration of more than 25 of the crusaders? cars and killed them,? resulting in all road leading to the airport being blocks and ?ambulance cars were rushing to take away their casualties, and extinguishing the fire that ate them.? Though the communiqué does not state where the airport was located, it seems to be the Baghdad Airport, where a suicide bomber blew up his car at a checkpoint, wounding at least 15 Iraqis.

An attack yesterday targeting Iraq police in Sab?albour, north Baghdad is described in the second communiqué, where the detonation of an explosive package upon a police car resulted in ?killing four of them.?

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
