Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for Attempted Assination of Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Rowsch Nouri Shaways, and Suicide Bombing Targeting American Consulate Workers in Kirkuk
By SITE Institute
June 2, 2005

In two separate communiqués issued to the Internet today, June 2, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah claims responsibility for a suicide car bombing upon the bodyguards of Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister in Tuz Khormato, Kirkuk, and another suicide bombing, also in Kirkuk, targeting works from the American consulate.

The first communiqué describes a suicide operation today in Kirkuk that struck the security forces who were protecting Rowsch Nouri Shaways, the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister, of the ?converted Kurdish parties.? According to the message, the operation ?resulted in killing 12 of them and injuring more than 25, where they were in Baghdad restaurant….? Media reports add that at least 40 were in the explosion and Deputy Prime Minister Shaways was not with the bodyguards. Ansar al-Sunnah concludes with a statement that ?there is a big difference between he who sacrifices himself for the sake of Allah and those who sacrifice themselves for the sake of Rowsch nouri Shaways.?

At the entrance of Arafa District in Kirkuk, as detailed in the second communiqué, a suicide bomber detonated his car upon a convoy of civilian cars outside the American consulate, ?burning three cars and killing more than ten crusaders….? The group mentions that the Arafa District is ?where Christians live,? and contains the American and British consulates, as well as members of the Kurdish parties.

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
