Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for Attacks upon American and Iraqi Forces in Kirkuk and Mosul
By SITE Institute
June 3, 2005

In two separate communiqués issued to the Internet today, June 3, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah claims responsibility for attacks targeting American and Iraqi forces in Kikruk and Mosul. Ansar al-Sunnah is reportedly linked to al-Qaeda front group, Ansar al-Islam, in Iraq.

The first communiqué describes a bombing operation today upon an American convoy on the expressway between Kikruk in Tikrit, in the area of al-Rashad in Kirkuk. According to the message, ?four crusaders were killed in the operation and four others were wounded.?

Several attacks today and yesterday in Mosul are highlighted in the second communiqué, in which the group alleges to have ?killed and injured? many members of Iraqi police patrols, and caused unknown losses to a ?crusaders? convoy? in al-Faisalya district and al-Rabe Bridge. Also, the message indicates that yesterday, the group ?struck the Kurdish Party?s quarters, ?the agents of the Jews and Christians near the Traffic Department of Ninawa governate.?

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
