al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims an Attack in Mosul and Condemns Raids in al-Latifya and al-Yosofya
By SITE Institute
June 7, 2005

In a second wave of communiqués, Al-Qaeda in Iraq issued two more statements. One statement claims responsibility for a suicide operation in Mosul, attacking an American armored vehicle "on the road to al-Ghoslani camp in the al-Dandan area"

The other communiqué condemns the raids against Sunnis in al-Latifya and al-Yosofya. The statement decries Shia Iraqi National Guard raids, describing an exchange in which "… when he [a Shia National Guard] enters a house, [he] asks "are you Sunni or Shia'. If they answer "Sunni", then he takes every man in the house. He only leaves one man after breaking his hand and hurting him…Those bad people are wearing the uniform of the non-believers guards while they are hurting every Sunni.". The statement finishes by quoting the Wafik "…there is no country, this is a chaos. The government has no control"

Interestingly a message was posted yesterday on an al-Qaeda affiliated message board and addressed to Zarqawi. The message, which was sent out by the SITE Institute, entitled "Messages Suggest New Targets for Zarqawi" complained of operations by Shias and Americans against Sunni households in al-Latifya and al-Yosofya. There could be a correlation between the two messages.

A full translation of the both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
