Shari’a Committee of al-Qaeda in Iraq Issues Statement of Recommendations to Galvanize Support Amongst its Members
By SITE Institute
June 7, 2005

The Shari?a Committee of al-Qaeda in Iraq, in a long statement issued yesterday, June 6, 2005, seeks to help its members ?face the enemies of Allah who are united together to fight the Sunni people? by offering a series of recommendations that the ?youth? are to follow. The message notes that this advice was precipitated by the resurgence of violence against the Sunni people, purportedly led by the Defense Minister of ?converted Jaafari government,? Saadoun al-Dulaimi.

First, the Shari?a Committee recommends courage and suicide operations as paramount to achieving victory, stating: ?to be courageous and seek death for the sake of Allah, is how you can win.? To achieve paradise, the message indicates that the fighter must align himself at the very front of the charging army and that ?the best martyrs are those who fight in the first row; they do not turn their faces till they are killed.? Further, the statement warns against cowardliness as the ?cause of defeat and humiliation,? and prays that the ?American crusaders? arrogance be destroyed by your necks and your bullets and your explosive belts and do not to sleep without the machine gun under your pillows, and the hand grenade in your hands.?

Second, fear of Allah is referenced as a ?reason for victory;? that no matter how large the enemy?s forces, such fear will provide the ?motive to fight the infidels without fearing them….? According to the statement, ?we have to do jihad. Either we are victorious or we become martyrs.?

Third, and final, loyalty to Allah, according to the statement, is one of the ?most important reasons to release the military siege of those international infidels,? and it will enable the mujahideen ?to defeat those who are more than you in number of gear.?

A full translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
