Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims to Capture 36 Iraqi Guards and Issues an Ultimatum to the Iraqi Government to Release Muslim Women from Prison within 24 Hours or the Captured will be Executed
By SITE Institute
June 9, 2005

In a statement issued to the Internet today, June 9, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq promises the execution of 36 members of the Iraqi National Guard, whom they claim to have captured in an ambush yesterday in al-Ghabiyah, unless the Iraqi government releases Muslim women alleged to be held within the Ministry of Interior?s jails.

According to the message, the group set up check points in various areas in al-Gharbiyah, western Iraq near the Syrian border, and captured a ?group of the infidel guards.? Following the ?arrest,? these guards were ?investigated? and purportedly ?confessed to the crimes they committed against the Sunni people by supporting the Jews and Christians….? Media reports indicate that 22 Iraqi guards were captured, but the statement insists these are ?lies of the crusader?s media? and there were in fact, 36 soldiers.

Further, al-Qaeda in Iraq issues a ?24 hour ultimatum? to the Iraqi government, demanding that they free Muslim women from prison or ?those aggressors will see where they are going to.?

A full translation of the statement is provided to our Intel Service members.
