Ansar al-Sunnah Disputes the Iraqi Government’s Claim that Mujahideen are Fighting Each Other in Heet, and Claims Responsibility for Killing American Soldiers in Abu Ghraib
By SITE Institute
June 9, 2005

In two separate statements issued to the Internet today, June 9, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah denies claims made by the Iraqi government that there were ?armed confrontations between the mujahideen? in Heit, west of Baghdad, and claims responsibility for an attack in Abu Ghraib today upon an American military convoy.

The first message, denying any discord between the mujahideen in Heet, avers that ?this is a lie and it has no bearing of truth,? and questions how the Iraqi government found this story, since they allege that ?Heet city is a forbidden area for you….? Further, the message indicates that Heeit is ?well controlled by mujahideen and its soul is not dishonored by the presence of any crusader or converter. It is one of the most calm and safe areas and it is ruled by the shari?a of Allah; that is why they are mad.?

As described in the second communiqué, an explosive package was detonated in Abu Ghraib today, which targeted an armed vehicle driven with an American military convoy. As a result of the explosion, the message indicates that ?four crusaders were killed and the rest were seriously injured.?

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
