Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Attacks Targeting Members of the Iraqi National Guard in Samarra, and American Forces and Badr Brigades in Baghdad

In four separate communiqués issued to the Internet today, June 13, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq through its official spokesman, Abu Maysara al-Iraqi, claims responsibility for attacks today upon coalition forces, including the Iraqi National Guard in Samarra, members of the Badr Brigade in Baghdad, and the murder of American soldiers in al-Dowra.

  1. The first communiqué highlights a bombing today, which ?hit the target,? of the Iraqi National Guards quarters in Samarra, north of Baghdad.
  2. According to the second message, three members of the Badr Brigade of the ?Alkami (Shi?a)? were murdered today, in three separate districts of Baghdad: al-Azamia, al-Adl, and al-Shaab. The communiqe states that ?This is your fate, you crusader supporters and this is your punishment [for] killing, hurting people, and dishonoring the sacreds.?
  3. The third communiqué describes a bombing operation today upon an American convoy in al-Dowra district of Baghad, which resulted in ?destroying an American Humvee and killing three soldiers….?
  4. Last Thursday, a helicopter was allegedly shot down in the area of al-Azim in Dyali, as the fourth communiqué indicates. Casualties from the attack are not known.
