Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Suicide Operations in Baghdad and al-Ramadi, and a Bombing at the Babil Hotel in Baghdad
By SITE Institute
June 30, 2005

In three separate communiqués issued today, June 30, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims responsibility suicide operations at al-Bakr base north of Baghdad and Ramadi, and a car bombing at the Babil Hotel in Baghdad.

The first communiqué describes a suicide bombing yesterday at an American camp, al-Bakr base, north of Baghdad. According to the message, the bomber detonated his car and killed ?four contractors and 17 worker supporters of the Jews and Christians.?

Another suicide attack is described in the second communiqué, where last Wednesday, June 22, a bomber detonated himself amongst a ?patrol of crusaders? in the ?nationalization district? of al-Ramadi, west of Baghdad. The message states that ?four Humvees were completely destroyed.?

According to the third message, the group ?detonated [a car bomb] from afar? on the Babil Hotel in Baghdad, yesterday, ?where the Israeli and American intelligence are quartered.? The message alleges that the hotel was ?destroyed? and struck a number of people. Media reports indicate that yesterday, a mortar round fell on the Babil Hotel?s parking lot, wounding one Iraqi.

A full translation of the message is provided to our Intel Service members.
