Ansar al-Sunnah Claims Responsibility for Attacks on the Iraqi National Guard in Abu Ghraib, and an American Base in Baquba
By SITE Institute
June 30, 2005

In two separate communiqués issued yesterday, June 29, 2005, Ansar al-Sunnah Army claims responsibility for attacks on an Iraqi National Guard patrol in the area of Abu Ghraib, and an American base in Baquba, east of Baghdad.

The first communiqué describes a bombing operation yesterday on members of the Iraqi National Guard in Abu Ghraib, where an explosive package was detonated on a car carrying ?five converters… all of them were killed.? Also, the message addresses the forces involved in Operation Sword, swearing that they will ?eliminate you and clean the earth of all who are like you.?

According to the second communiqué, the group attacked an American base in Baquba yesterday with a barrage of 35 mortar shells, 3 rockets, and a car bomb. The message states: ?The results were satisfactory; it resulted in killing quite a number of crusaders.?

A full translation of both messages is provided to our Intel Service members.
