Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for the Murder of Shaalan Abboud Mubarak, Leader of the Quick Response Forces in Dyali, Bombing American Quarters in Mosul, and Refutes Media Claims that a Mortar Shell Caused the Damage at Babil Hotel in Baghdad

In three separate communiqués issued today, July 1, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims responsibility for the murder yesterday of Shaalan Abboud Mubarak, the leader of the Quick Response Forces in Dyali, and bombing American quarters in Mosul today, and responds to media claims that the attack on Babil Hotel in Baghdad was wrought by a mortar shell.

The first communiqué states that yesterday, the group assassinated Shaalan Abboud Mubarak, the leader of the Quick Response Forces in Dyali. According to the message, Mubarak was guilty of supporting ?the Jews and the Christians, and he joined the devil?s soldiers and fought Islam and the Muslims.?

Al-Qaeda in Iraq, in the second communiqué, reiterates their claim for responsibility of detonating a car bomb at the Babil Hotel in Baghdad Wednesday, as they refute media claims that the damage was cause by a mortar shell. The message states that ?lying for the enemies of Allah is their religion.?

According to the third message, today, the group executed a bombing operation on the American Forces? quarters in al-Yarmouk, in Mosul, using eleven mortar shells. The message indicates that they ?hit the target….?
